SCRIPT WRITING OPPORTUNITIES Via ISA:

SEEKING EXPERIENCED WRITER FOR REWRITE OF TEEN ROMCOM
“My Friend Noah” is a romantic comedy written by Ryan MacKenzie about a guy who pretends to be gay to score the hottest girl in school. First act included at our website at http://www.MyFriendNoah.com. Plans are to produce the film in 2012. Financing is around the corner and coverage has been collected. Script is in good shape but needs a strong rewrite and collaborator to guarantee a sale when the film is completed. Looking for an experienced screenwriter who is passionate about Ultra- Low Budget independent films, years of commercial screenwriting experience, a strong handle on romantic teen comedies, and understands niche markets, film festivals, etc. Will consider union and non-union. Payment will be deferred — $5,000 (more for union). Upon commencement of principal photography. Please provide job resume, bio, writing samples, and references for us at myfriendnoah@gmail.com. References will be called.

SEEKING COWRITER TO DEVELOP 2 HOUR TELEPLAY SCRIPT
Seeking a cowriter to develop an outline/partial script into a teleplay for a 2-hour TV Pilot/feature film. Production team is professional and has some great credits under their belt already. The genre is psychological thriller (think of a little Twin Peaks, a little Alias, a little Millennium – very character driven with an ensemble cast.) Please understand the following: this may or may not be paid, so please DO NOT respond if you are only willing to do paid work. And it will be a collaborative effort with the series creator. Male or female, young or old, student or professional – all may apply. Also this will need to be done remotely. My production Company has produced two successful projects already: a very well received TV Pilot which won about 25 awards in 2010 from TV Festivals, and a short film, which received two nominations in 2011. Both were of high quality in every respect. So you won’t be getting into something that will turn out to look and sound of poor quality. Please email your resume, sample scene(s) or trailers/clips of your finished script work, imdb page (if you have one), photo (optional), and anything else you think might be helpful. Thank you.

YOUNG DIRECTOR SEEKING SCREENWRITER FOR JUNE 2012 PRODUCTION
My name is Isaiah Smith, and I’m 25 years of age. I work as an independent contractor shooting, directing, and editing. Editing is my passion; my goal is to be a feature film editor! I have a bachelor’s degree in film studies from the University of North Texas. I know that doesn’t mean much in a field driven by artistic skill and creativity, but I’m hoping to build more credibility by mentioning my degree. Anyhow, I’m reaching out to the writing community because screenwriting is not one of my strong points. I can shoot shots all day; I can edit all day, but developing a script is an entire beast in itself. That’s why there are professionals, like you all, who make careers of it. I have a small team that is helping develop the script for our short film, but we’re not script writers. I’m doing most of the writing, and it is very challenging. We have about 24-pages written at the moment, but it’s not very strong. I understand the amount of skill and talent it takes to develop a solid story. It’s not something I take lightly because without a good story there is nothing worth sharing. I’m looking for somebody who is passionate and gifted in writing. This person should be able to take an idea and run with it. Preferably, this person will have some experience in screenwriting, but it’s fine to apply with no experience. We all have to start somewhere. :-) Lastly, this film is planned to be shot in June 2012. As of right now, we have yet to obtain funding. However, we will be launching a two month campaign on Indie Go-Go in March. We’re believing that God will bless us with $20,000 to make this film a reality. The team is made up of young people who have come together to do a great thing in order to build momentum that will help propel us into our future endeavors. So, there is no money to pay whoever joins the team, sorry. Remember, God takes us through different seasons in our lives. Today, I’m developing a short film, believing for $20k because this is the season God has placed me in. However, in the future, I plan to develop feature films with budgets well in the millions of dollars. If I’m faithful with what I have been given then more will be given. In other words, please don’t let money be the reason you turn down the opportunity to collaborate with talented and creative people. Write to me at infor@saiahsmithfilms.com. For samples of my work check out IsaiahSmithFilms.com. Also, to find out more about the lead actor for this film check out Harmini.org.

SEEKING COMEDIC SCREENWRITER TO HELP WITH DIALOGUE

I’d love to sit down and discuss the story and see if you can helpe out. I’d love if you are seasoned at screen writing and more specifically at comedies. Pay will be small unless you would rather make a deal for when I either direct the film or sale it and we can work that out when it comes. You can text me at 972-533-5480 at anytime.

Many people often wonder whether to copyright their work, and the best way in which to do it. So I’m going to help you.

Okay, first of all, what is copyright?

Nice and simple. Like a patent, trademark, and any design that can be copied, copyright is an intellectual property; also known as ‘IP’, and gives you all ‘rights’ to your work and protects it from copyright infringement.

Now I could go on and on explaining all the different avenues, but as this is based at writers, I will stick with novels and screenplays.

You’ve written a novel (fiction or non-fiction), short story, or poem, and you want to send it off to an agent, manager, or publisher. What should you do first? That’s right, copyright it.

Who with?

Whoa there fiesty one. First check you live in a Berne Convention Country. 162 of the 190 countries are signed to it, so chances are, you are.

Now you can register your work with an organisation. Now there are various ones both in the UK and US that I use.

US pilots and screenplays I use WGA (Writers Guild of America) West. I also register my synopsis here. I have never had a problem and the service is very prompt and efficient. There is also some cool information on their website.

For my UK pilots, screenplays and novels, I use the Intellectual Property Rights Office.

N.B. If you are a subscriber to firstwriter.com you can benefit from a 10% discount when you start the registration process through their site. If you are already a Firstwriter subscriber, click here. If not and want to, click here first.

There is usually a charge, approximately £20/$40, to register work and you should be issued with a certificate, although these can take up to six months to be delivered.

Although I’ve never registered a novel with a US copyright organsisation, more information may be obtained at the US Copyright Office.

I’ve tried to keep this post as simple as I can, but if there is something you don’t understand, put your query in the comment box. Likewise, if you’ve had any dealings with any of the organisations listed here, good or bad, let me know. Maybe you use other companies. If so, let me know them too.

If you want more of me, I can be found on FacebookTwitter, Google+ and Linkedin

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from ECollegeFinder notifying me that my blog had been nominated for an award. Yesterday, voting opened.

This is an extremely exciting for me.

I posted my first blog on 28th November, 2009. Like most new bloggers, I think I blogged about three times in two months and then nothing until October 2010, when I began blogging once a week. Now, however, I blog three times a week. I aim the majority of my articles towards writers, being I am one, but every now and then I like to have a little fun and embarass myself.

Every Monday I list all the latest writing competitions for authors and screenwriters I can find. Each Wednesday I post a 30 Second Interview, the particpants being either authors, screenwriters, or staff writers,  and Fridays are usually a mix between writing advice, guest posts, book reveiws, or just a bit of ‘fun’.

What has overwhelmed me, is the amount of support my twitter and Facebook peeps have shown. I’ve lost count how many messages of congratulations and RT’s I’ve received on twitter alone.

If you like this blog, and if you would like to show your much appreciated support, please click the blue box above (or the one in the top right hand margin). It only takes a minute. Click ‘Donna Newton’s Blog’, and then, at the bottom of the list, ’VOTE’.

Voting ends Friday 3rd February, so there’s no time to waste. Oh, and if you feel really generous, you can vote for me more than once. So even if you already have …..Vote again :D

I’ll let you know how I do.

Let me know what special awards you’ve been nominated for, or received. I don’t care what it’s for. School activities, competitions, anything goes on here.

If you want more of me, I can be found on FacebookTwitter, Google+ and Linkedin

James Lipton and the Actors Studio did it for fun with the actors…..Now, I’m doing it for fun with the writers.

Before I start on Robert, I must just tell you this. Many years ago, I was fortunate to attend one of his personal appearances. I remember a story he told like it was yesterday. That story is this. Robert’s friend had (decades earlier) offered him the chance to invest in a little unknown venture called ‘the internet’. Robert didn’t think it would amount to anything, and declined the generous offer. Thank god he did or today he may have been too busy counting his zillions to take part in the ever popular 30 Second Interview.

1956 saw the birth of one Robert Llewellyn. He never had any desire to perform and at the age of 16, was expelled from school and became a ‘hippie’.

At 24, and with only a Christmas charity puppet show under his ‘belt of experience’, Robert entered the world of show business.

What began as a hobby, Robert’s amateur cabaret evenings in a riverside warehouse overlooking London’s Tower Bridge, soon became a great success. Together with Bernie Evans, Nigel Ordishand, and Graham Allum, Robert formed the alternative comedy group, The Joey’s. The first year alone would see them tour the UK and Europe, clocking up a massive 260 performances; thousands more over the following four years.

Spurned on by their success, Robert turned to novel writing. But ‘All Quiet in the West End’ was never published. A good thing according to Robert, “as it was total trash.”

Robert was an avid writer for the show, and as their success grew, so did their singing talents.

After the Joey’s split, Robert, along with Chris Eymard, wrote and starred in Channel 4′s comedy, ‘The Cornerhouse’. Robert remembers it as a “true disaster that just wasn’t funny.”

Undeterred, and inspired by Paul Verhoeven ‘Robocop’, Robert wrote comedy play ‘Mammon’. It premiered in 1988 at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival and was a great success.

‘Mammon’ was seen by Paul Jackson, the then producer of Red Dwarf, who immediately offered Robert the part of ‘Kryten’. But Robert’s show, ‘Mammon’,  had been commissioned by Channel 4 and he nearly declined the offer.

Luckily, he didn’t. In 1989, Series three of Red Dwarf aired. Robert joined fellow cast members Craig Charles and Chris Barrie, and stayed until the show ended in 1999, five series later.

But, Robert’s career didn’t stop there. As well as appearing in TV classics such as  Bottom, Discovery Channel’s How Do They Do It?, and the ever popular Scrapheap Challenge, Robert started a web series called Carpool. Carpool  was simple. Robert picked up a ‘famous’ person and drove them to work. During their journey, Robert and his passenger would chat and laugh. The series was an instant hit and in November 2010, UKTV began broadcasting the show on Dave.

So, now for the long awaited questions. A funny man with very funny answers.

1.  What is your favorite word?  Cunnilingus

2. What is your least favorite word? Ananas

3. What turns you on?   Hands

4. What turns you off?   Touchiness

5. What sound do you love?   Laughing

6. What sound do you hate? Diesel Engines

7. What is your favorite curse word?   Tosser

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?   Sewage Work

9.  What profession would you not like to do?  Singer

10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?   ”Tosser. In you come.”

James Lipton and the Actors Studio did it for fun with the actors…..Now, I’m doing it for fun with the writers.

On 8th October, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, the first of three Stine siblings was born; Robert Lawrence Stine, known to friends and family as Bob, would go on to become the worlds teenage literary answer to Stephen King.

Bob was nine years old when he unearthed an old typewriter in the attic; a discovery which, unbeknown then, would change his life for ever. Never one to play outside, Bob took the typewriter to his bedroom and began to type the first of many stories and joke books.

School did not see Bob as a great student. He hated math, he hated gym (the only sport he was ever good at was ping pong!), and he hated studying. Instead, he spent most of his time writing stories and joke magazines.

After graduating from Ohio State University in 1965, Bob headed to New York City to become a writer. He wrote dozens of joke books and humor books for kids, and created Bananas, a zany humor magazine. If you look for that work now, you’ll have to look under the name, Jovial Bob Stine.

In 1962, Bob married Jane Waldhorn. Jane became an editor and writer, and together they worked on several children’s books. Later, Jane and her partner formed their own publishing company, Parachute Press, and helped create all of husband’s most popular book series.

In 1986, Bob became R.L.Stine and turned scary!

He wrote his first teen horror novel, Blind Date, which became an instant best-seller. Many scary novels followed, including Beach House, Hit And Run, The Babysitter, and The Girlfriend.

In 1989,  Fear Street, the best-selling, young adult series in history was created. Fear Street boasts approximately100  books about teens facing all kinds of terror.

Then, in 1992, the Goosebumps  series hit the bookshelves and instantly became a hit around the world. To date, it’s been translated into 32 different languages and made R.L. Stine a worldwide publishing celebrity. To follow this success, The Goosebumps TV show was created and became America’s number-one kids’ show three years in a row. The episodes are still shown at Halloween time and many of the shows are now on DVD.

Other R.L. Stine book creations include: Ghosts of Fear Street, Give Yourself Goosebumps, The Nightmare Room (also a TV series), Mostly Ghostly, and Beware!, a collection of all his favorite stories, poems, comics and illustrations. Rotten School was a series of funny books about the rottenest school on earth. He has also published two creepy short story collections– The Nightmare Hour and The Haunting Hour. Also, two teen vampire novels– Dangerous Girls and Dangerous Girls II: The Taste of Night.

R.L.’s books are read all over the world. So far, he has sold over 350 million books, making him one of the best-selling children’s authors in history.

These days, R.L. is busier than ever. He’s working on many books, including the Goosebumps HorrorLand series. R.L. lives in New York City with his wife Jane and his dog Minnie. His son Matthew is a composer, musician, and sound designer.

So, did we scare Bob with these questions?……of course not! This is a man who happily announces: “My job is to give kids the CREEPS!”

1.  What is your favorite word?  Bomboloni (Italian doughnuts)

2. What is your least favorite word? decrepit

3. What turns you on?   Bomboloni

4. What turns you off?   Worms in my salad

5. What sound do you love?   MMmmmmmmmm

6. What sound do you hate? Ackackackackack

7. What is your favorite curse word?   None. They’re all fine with me.

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?   Ballerina

9.  What profession would you not like to do?  Deodorant company armpit tester

10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?   ”Guess what – no more deadlines.”

Seeking fellow screenwriter to collaborate with
I wish to find a fellow screenwriter to collaborate with on screenplays. I have repeatedly received indications from studios and/or directors/producers directly that they were more inclined to favor collaborated work, especially work that has crossed some international culture differences. Any level is ok, just need the passion to work hard and get things done with me. If interested, please let me know ASAP by contacting me at anthony_spicer@hotmail.com.

Seeking fellow screenwriter for collaboration
I am looking for a fellow screenwriter who would be interested in collaborating with me on a true story I have for a future film.  We would collaborate together on the screenplay and bring it to someone/film company to bring it to life.  If you are a screenwriter looking to write for a new feature film here is your chance.  This is a true, very original, unique story that would be a great experience to write.  I want to collaborate with somebody who I know will be willing to work with me and take the it to heart.  This story could be called a murder/mystery with a flair but the truth is, it is much more than that.  It is a story unlike any other,  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at sarahangelrose@yahoo.com.

Sreenwriter/Host to interview I.S.A. teleconference guests
The I.S.A. is looking for a screenwriter with hosting or teleconference experience to interview the guests for the upcoming I.S.A. sponsored teleconferences.  You don’t have to have a ton of experience but you have to be engaging, inquisitive and fun to listen to.  We want an active screenwriter because we want someone who will be interested in asking the questions other screenwriters will want to hear.
We do up to 4 teleconferences a month, usually for an hour and a half on Saturdays.  Occasionally some calls are scheduled during the week, so you need to be flexible.  This is currently a non-paid position but could turn into a paid position as the demand for our teleconferences grow.
If you’re serious about your craft, this is GREAT opportunity!  You’ll get to ask the questions you want to ask to the people you will most want to ask them to.  We’ve interviewed some of the top lecturers in the industry, including Robert McKee, Chris Soth, etc.
Please send a short email telling us about you, your experience and why you’re perfect for this job to: NetworkISA@gmail.com

I recently read a blog post ‘What Makes a Male Character Swoon Worthy?’, and loved it so much, I asked the writer, Jillian Dodd, if she would like to write more on the actions of the perfect man; for me.

Over to you, Jillian:

In my book, That Boy, the main love interest in the book is a boy named Phillip. Phillip is pretty dreamy. A lot of readers ask me if a man like Phillip really exists. I always have to answer yes. Phillip shares many characteristics with my own husband. In the upcoming sequel, That Wedding, Phillip shares a pros and cons list he made when deciding if he should tell his best friend that he was in love with her.

I got to thinking about my husband’s pros. So many of the things he does just make me melt.

He was so proud when our daughter was born

He’s the best kisser. Ever. We had a scheduled first date. I had met another guy that I was kinda going crazy about and almost cancelled our date*. I’m so glad I didn’t. When he kissed me, I knew.

He rubs my face to relax me.

He lets me pout to get my way.

He’s okay with the fact that our daughter has him wrapped around her little finger.

His muscles.

The way I feel safe in his arms.

How he always rescues me; Flat tires, snow storms, big spiders.

I’m horrible to buy presents for. I snoop. I look at our online banking. I try to trick the kids into telling me, but somehow he manages to surprise me every year.

He’s always warm.

He always gives me his jacket or sweatshirt if I’m cold, even if it means he gets cold.

He’s like my very own Ken doll. He lets me pick out all his suit, shirt, and tie combos.

When we were dating, we went snow skiing. It was my first time, and it was super cold. I hate cold. He took my mittens off on top of the mountain and blew warm air into them to warm my hands up.

Enjoying life with my brother at a Husker Bowl game

He’s a busy stressed executive, but he always puts our family first.

He lets me wear his sweatshirts when I’m sick.

He always smells amazing. Specifically his neck.

He lets me sleep in late.

He supports my wild ideas.

He didn’t laugh at me when I told him I was going to write a book. He made me finish.

He brings me real hot chocolate, the steamed milk yummy kind, in bed.

He drives me around to see Christmas lights every year, even though he doesn’t get the big deal.

He makes me laugh.

He puts gas in my car. My car is always empty.

He takes my car to get washed.

With my daughter at the lake, after she caught her first fish and she wanted to eat it. He talked her into throwing it back after the photo.

He orders pizza for the kids when I’m tired.

He lets me take really long baths with no interruptions.

He spends numerous hours with my son, working on his go kart, so my son can live his dream.

He buys me chocolate.

He looks equally sexy in a suit as he does in a tshirt.

He loves football as much as I do.

He celebrates life.

He never lets a waiter take his order first. Ladies always order first. Same thing for doors.

He is the dish fairy at our house. I hate emptying the dishwasher and love it when I open it up and the dishwasher is empty. He always tells me the dish fairy came.

He folds a perfect towel. Mine are always messy, whereas his look perfect.

With my son, spending lots of time so he can pursue his dream of racing professionally

He cleans out the shower drain.

He sold his race car to buy my engagement ring.

He doesn’t put up with my shit.

We’ve lived in many homes and in numerous cities, but it never matters. Home is where he is.

.

James Lipton and the Actors Studio did it for fun with the actors…..Now, I’m doing it for fun with the writers.

29 year old, Noelle Carbone has one of the best jobs in the world. How did she get there? With a whole lot of talent, and a little bit of luck. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Noelle’s job almost seems inevitable. Having graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Noelle decided to enroll in a summer screenwriting workshop at Humber College.

It was here that she met Professor Donna O’Brien-Sokic. With much encouragement, and demonstrating endless hard work, Noelle went on to complete a further three years in Humber’s film and television programme.

During this time, Noelle made many friends and contacts and in her third year at Humber, she landed an internship with Capri Films Inc. While here, Noelle was introduced to Ilana Frank, President of Thump Inc & Norstar Filmed Entertainment Inc… and landed the job of a lifetime as Ilana’s development Executive for ABC’s hit Canadian television series, ‘Rookie Blue’.

Ironically, the day before Rookie Blue aired, Noelle was out with two off-duty police friends when a couple of shoplifters tried to leave a convenience store with a back pack full of unpaid goods. The officers leapt into action and apprehended one of the suspects.

Now a writer & executive story editor on the show, which is now heading for its third season, having friends like these has its benefits – and real-life ideas. Click here for a behind the scenes look at the show.

So, what would a girl like Noelle make of our ten questions?

1.  What is your favorite word?  Forza!

2. What is your least favorite word? Mucus

3. What turns you on?   Pencil Skirts

4. What turns you off?   Bad Grammar (Yep, I’m that guy.)

5. What sound do you love?   Justin Rutledge’s Voice. (It’s like someone playing with your hair while you fall asleep.

6. What sound do you hate?  Raccoon fights

7. What is your favorite curse word?   Balls

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?   I’m too unemployable to do anything else

9.  What profession would you not like to do?  Flight attendant. (I barf on planes.)

10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?   ”Nicely done.”
