I recently read a blog post ‘What Makes a Male Character Swoon Worthy?’, and loved it so much, I asked the writer, Jillian Dodd, if she would like to write more on the actions of the perfect man; for me.
Over to you, Jillian:
In my book, That Boy, the main love interest in the book is a boy named Phillip. Phillip is pretty dreamy. A lot of readers ask me if a man like Phillip really exists. I always have to answer yes. Phillip shares many characteristics with my own husband. In the upcoming sequel, That Wedding, Phillip shares a pros and cons list he made when deciding if he should tell his best friend that he was in love with her.
I got to thinking about my husband’s pros. So many of the things he does just make me melt.
He’s the best kisser. Ever. We had a scheduled first date. I had met another guy that I was kinda going crazy about and almost cancelled our date*. I’m so glad I didn’t. When he kissed me, I knew.
He rubs my face to relax me.
He lets me pout to get my way.
The way I feel safe in his arms.
How he always rescues me; Flat tires, snow storms, big spiders.
He’s a busy stressed executive, but he always puts our family first.
He lets me wear his sweatshirts when I’m sick.
He supports my wild ideas.
He makes me laugh.
He puts gas in my car. My car is always empty.

With my daughter at the lake, after she caught her first fish and she wanted to eat it. He talked her into throwing it back after the photo.
He lets me take really long baths with no interruptions.
He buys me chocolate.
He looks equally sexy in a suit as he does in a tshirt.
He loves football as much as I do.
He celebrates life.
He never lets a waiter take his order first. Ladies always order first. Same thing for doors.
He is the dish fairy at our house. I hate emptying the dishwasher and love it when I open it up and the dishwasher is empty. He always tells me the dish fairy came.
He folds a perfect towel. Mine are always messy, whereas his look perfect.
He cleans out the shower drain.
He sold his race car to buy my engagement ring.
He doesn’t put up with my shit.
We’ve lived in many homes and in numerous cities, but it never matters. Home is where he is.

So, what special things does your partner do for you? How many of the above can you tick off? What qualities do you find attractive in a man? What/who is your ideal partner? Let me know. Let’s see if we can find someone more dreamy that Jillian’s hubby 🙂
That was beautiful. I always enjoy reading Jillian’s posts – esp about her family and it was lovely to have this extra insight. I loved her book ‘that Boy’ and its so cool to see where she got the inspiration from for ‘Phillip’! I cant wait to read ‘That Wedding.’

Lani, I’m just about to start reading ‘That Boy’. I’m going to struggle imagining anyone else other than Phillip, lol.

Thanks for having me on your blog today!! I wish the other pics worked. The one with my daughter is my favorite pic of him!! And I think we all could make a pro list for our spouses. We marry them because we all dream of true love!! There’s a challenge for you all. Make a list for your own spouse. You’ll probably be a little surprised at how long it is!! (And the bonus side, when they are driving you nuts and you think, Why did I marry them? you can pull out the list and remind yourself!!)
I was also told not to post this on my facebook, as it might ruin his reputation.

Pic’s all working. Yay! 🙂
My hubby’s Pro list? Well, he made me give up my part-time job and told me to write full time. He cooks, cleans, and washes my car. Like Phillip, he always holds a door open for me. He is forever telling me I look nice. He’s great with the kids. Gets them out of my hair if I’m behind on work or writing a hard scene. He is my best friend. We enjoy the same activies. He makes me laugh. I just wouldn’t want anyone else. I’m afraid, he’s stuck with me for life 🙂
Thank you so much for writing this blog. You made me think just how much my husband does for me, and how much I love him for it.

What an awesome man. Like Kathy said, you make me appreciate my hubby all over again.
The thing I love most about my hubby is that he never tells me what to do. Even when I’m screwing up, he just gets out of my way and lets me climb my own trees, and he’s always there cheering for me when I reach the top or catching me when I fall.
Several times a year, he surprises me with flowers, just because he’s knows it will surprise me.
He keeps the toothpick holder full for me.
And when I say I should get a “real job” he always says, “Finish your book.”
It’s a privilege to be his wife, and I would marry him again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for the great post Jillian, and thank you for the moment’s pause to appreciate one of life’s greatest gifts. 🙂

Great post, Jill. It’s always good to think about why you appreciate someone – even more so when it’s your spouse. Bet he could make a long list about you, too. Thanks for hosting my friend, Donna.

David, it was an honor having Jill write it. Not sure the list about us women is a good idea, though. 😉

Awesome post girls!
Jillian, you’ve got a keeper honey! Love that!
I feel the very same way about my husband that you do.
Since the first time he kissed me I knew he was the one. Great kisser. But those lips are mine, all mine!
Always a gentleman, will always take me shopping and he hates to shop.
Helps me clean the house, shares the cooking privileges, dish duty, he also fulls up my car with gas, does most of the grocery shopping and I can’t seem to keep his hands off of me. lol And he is a wonderful father and my best friend! 🙂

Excellent! My hubby would like to do more grocery shopping – but I don’t fancy eating crisps (chips), biscuits, and pork pies for the week 🙂
Deal: I shop – he cooks. Perfect combination. Lol.

Isn’t Jillian great, Donna!?! Thanks for hosting her today. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her husband, like I have her, but I can only assume he is all this greatness and more. Why? Because Jill is!
What special things does my guy do for me? You mean besides support me 100% financially so that I can write, as if that’s not big enough? It’s the small things really….He peels my shrimp for me (because I don’t like to get my hands dirty), he rubs my feet for me everyday (even though he’s the one that gets up and leaves to go to a real job), and he laughs at me (honestly, despite the fact he’s laughing AT me, I love that I can make him laugh).
GREAT post!

Thanks, Tiffany.
My hubby gets rid of spiders for me. Even when I spot one late at night – he wakes up and deals with it. Okay, he usually drops and loses them, but that’s not the point, is it? 🙂
