What was you expecting? Hearts and flowers? I’m a paranormal/thriller writer. My day job is to scare the crap out of people and then kill them.
Oh, okay. Just for you lovey-dovey romantics out there……
Right, now back to business.
Valentines Day, or February 14th to those of us who don’t receive cards, is a time for secret admirers, romance, love, weekend getaways, roses, chocolates…..and murder. So I thought it would be fun to look at the horror side to valentines day.
First, let’s hit my DVD collection. And in no way do these two films reflect on me as a person…I’m just very easily pleased – even though my hubby would argue that point . 🙂
My Bloody Valentine
With a mad miner running around killing everybody in sight – what this film has to do with Valentines Day other than the title is anyone’s guess. But it has my man Jensen Ackles in it and that’s good enough for me 🙂
There’s also an ‘okay’ twist at the end…. Although, no to my liking.
What else do I have on my shelf? Ah, yes. The devilishly handsome, Mr Boreanaz in
Now, I’m not declaring these films to be the beez-kneez of horror movies, but at least this one incorporates the Valentine theme.
It gives a couple of good scares and is totally predictable. Good news is you can probably pick up a copy for next to nothing. Happy Days!
Everybody knows this story. Al Capone had seven of the Moran Gang shot and executed on the morning of February 14th, 1929.
I can find no reason Capone orchestrated the killings to take place on this date, which is a shame.
Even novelists are using the date to hook readers into their stories. The most famous being, Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay. At the request of the publisher, Lindsay left out the final chapter, leaving the mystery unresolved.
This decision was a canny move and led to movie adaptions and unrelenting discussions that the ‘disappearances’ were in fact based on true events.
So, there is my romantic outlook on Valentines Day.
Just remember, the next time you receive an unsigned card, a dozen red roses, or prepare for your romantic blind-date, it may mean you will never see February 15th.
Happy Valentines Day 🙂
Now it’s your turn. What do you have planned for Valentines Day? Have you ever received anything weird on February 14th? More to the point, have you ever sent anything weird? What is the most amount of cards you’ve received? Do you know of any other movies or stories depicted around Valentine’s day? In fact, if you have anything to say and it’s related to Valentines Day, add it in the comments.
If you want more of me, I can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Linkedin
ya think that’s scary? That ain’t scary. Forgetting Valentines Day when it’s also your anniversary, your sixty second aniversary. Now that’s scary.
Pray for me…

I’m not really a romantic…we did our Vday night out last night with a Cheese, Chocolate, and Bubbles tasting at a Dallas cheesery. Cheesery – is that word? LOL
I would opt for a horrific Valentine if I had my choice…I love scary movies and watch Valentine every chance I get. 🙂 My Bloody Valentine is another nice choice with my boy Jensen.

I watched the Day of the Dead remake last night, and I really enjoyed it. I’m on a horror fest run at it now. I haven’t watched Valentine in a while, so may stick that on over the weekend! 🙂

Valentine’s Day is such a commercial holiday and causes so must depression. Kind of sad. I would love to have a horrific Valentine, but hubs is a wimp and doesn’t like horror movies. So we go out to a nice restaurant, which we are actually doing this weekend and that’s it.
Love this post!

My hubby, Mark, doesn’t like supernatural/paranormal films. They scare the living hell out of him……so I bribe and then (if that doesn’t work), force him to watch them. He hides behind a cushion for the majority of the movie. Lol.

EWWW! I’m a romantic, give me candles and chocolate and save the horror for other people kind of gal.
I am so with yours and Stacy’s husbands! Don’t make me watch a horror film unless you want to pay for therapy for the next sixteen years. Seriously.
And I’m so jealous of Tiffany’s cheesy date. That sounds like heaven on a plate.

Lol, how funny. I do like romance, but much prefer a little action and adventure. The one film which did scare me stupid was ‘The Strangers’. I’ve only seen it the once 🙂

I’m definitely a romantic, but never one to get my hopes up for specific gifts or plans. I like to be surprised and then i’m happy with whatever it is. When doing laundry this morning i found a receipt in my hubs pocket for an internet order of flowers…I’ll pretend to be surprised.
Now, unrelated to this post…I love the new header! Black and white photography always interests me. This little house reminds me of my girlfriends camp in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It also looks like a good place for a murder mystery. 🙂

Marcia, start practising your surprised face now! 😀
And thanks for the vote of confidence over my new blog theme. It’s actually a cabin in Chilnualna Falls, Yosemite. I took it when researching for another story. In colour it is just a cabin – but in sepia it is just plain spooky. I love it!

Hi Donna
Ha! The Valentine’s day massacre could well refer to any part of my (less than) musical past. At least there was less blood (or at least what there was stayed inside the owners bodies). I’m going to keep my mouth shut and take family to Paris this year.
Cheers!
