With only days to go before the much awaited premier of James Bond’s, Skyfall, it seems the UK has gone into Bond frenzy. I passed Harrods yesterday, and the whole window was devoted to 007. It was only when I saw this video this morning that I realised just how far they had taken their obsession.
And I don’t need any excuse to write about a handsome man with a six pack!
But what is it about James Bond that makes men want to be him, and women yearn to have his babies? Okay, I know damn well why women chase their fantasy – I still think if Daniel Craig met me before Rachel Weisz, I’d be Mrs Bond…. We do, after all, have the same colour hair 🙂
As for the men’s reason? Who cares. As long as they keep churning out the movies, the female population will stay happy.
Now, down to business. The best Bond.
Connery was the first Bond way back in the 60’s with six movies under his belt.
I found him arrogant and although I am a massive Connery fan, I don’t like him as Bond.
George Lazenby made one movie, and I’ve never seen it.
Was it any good?
Roger Moore was the first James Bond I liked.
He made contributed to seven movies in the franchise and added a little humour
to the
character. This was the first time I saw Bond showing a little emotion.
Hmm. Timothy Dalton made two appearances as Bond. I think I saw bits of one.
To his credit, some do say he was the best.
Pierce Brosnan made four movies and was by far my favourite. I went into mourning when film bosses announced he would not return for a fifth.
For me, he was the first Bond to show the character was actually capable of love, kindness and emotion.
When Daniel Craig was announced as the new Bond, I refused to watch any more 007 films.
Fifteen minutes into Casino Royale, I was in love and had found my new favourite Bond.
Craig’s third Bond film is about to be released…. I’m as happy as a pig in mud.
As for the worse Bond movie moments, check out my friend, Lewis Malka, over on ‘Top Left Design’s’ blog. Lewis is definitely a James Bond fan who has taken things way too far.
Now, who do you reckon would still be standing if there was a Battle of the Bonds?
So, who is your favourite James Bond? And why? Also, do you have a best and worse moment in a Bond movie?

George Lazenby was in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. It didn’t make as much money as the other Bond films at the time, but it is often chosen as the all time favorite by many Bond fans. It’s certainly one of my favorites. In it, Bond marries his wife Teresa, a Spanish countess. She is, of course, killed so that the franchise can continue. But it is the first Bond film in which he is human and not a two-dimensional caricature.
Lazenby is NOT my favorite Bond, though. Every Bond was my favorite Bond at the time, except Timothy Dalton. Then came along Pierce. Ah, Pierce.
I think of Bond as having two incarnations. The Connery – Brosnan life, and now Craig as the start of a new life. The series was re-invented and taken back to it’s Fleming roots with the Craig Bond. Pierce is my favorite of the first incarnation, and Craig rivals him for my affections as my favorite so far in the new life.
So jealous of you right now!

Piper, I have swooned over Pierce since the days of Remington Steele. Remember that white suit? Damn, I thought he looked good in that white suit.

My favourite Bond is Connery. Lazenby? I don’t like it at all

With all the repeats on Sky, I will have to watch a Lazenby one. I do have the original spoof ‘Casino Royale’ with David Niven, to watch. Unsure if it is the Bond character though. I don’t think it is…. so that would make this comment totally irrelevant 🙂

Hi Donna 🙂
I’m sure I’ve seen Lazenby, but I don’t remember him. Moore had so many of the cheesiest lines, usually at the end of the movie. He always acted like a puppet. There was a kind of innocence in the Connery movies, probably because he wasn’t trying to live up to anything at that point.
The Land Rover movie is, er, interesting. Why, with all that careful editing, do that have a three second shot of some guys bum? Weird.
Enjoy the movie!
Cheers!

Roger Moore was on the TV the other morning. He is so funny. He said his acting ability in the Bond movies were based on three movements. – Right eyebrow raised. Left eyebrow raised. Both eyebrow’s raised.
I didn’t see the bum shot in the Land Rover short. I do promise that I will re-examine though 🙂

LOL! Never has anyone got so far on their eyebrow abilities!

We’ve been watching the Bond movies in sequence with my sons. It’s been awesome to see them again, as well as a couple I hadn’t seen before.
Lazenby…meh. My favorite Bond is Connery, although I consider that he had a worst Bond moment in hitting a woman who didn’t deserve it. My second fave is easily Brosnan. I was so sad when they dropped him too! I can’t get into Daniel Craig. I’m waiting for the next Bond actor because the blond, overly pucker-lipped Craig just isn’t my thang.
I’m curious who you think they should tap next!

Julie, Julie, Julie. What am I going to do with you? You don’t like Daniel Craig? For once, I am speechless…… well, almost.

Sean Connery is my favorite Bond… but Daniel Craig is slowly creeping up that list! I never thought I’d like him as Bond, but I do!!

I’d eagerly encourage Daniel Craig to slowly creep anywhere on me 🙂

The Lazenby movie was just a waste. Not because of the plot, but because of the horrible editing that went into the fight scenes. Entirely too choppy, and all to protect pretty boy’s face. It’s hard for me to watch that one.
Connery is the studly Bond – he sees a woman he wants, he takes.
Moore is the campy Bond – and he got more so as his movies went on.
Dalton struck me as cold & angry Bond
Brosnan was the charmer.
Craig has managed to put all of those facets into one character, which is why I think he’s the best Bond out of the last 40 years or so.

Drooling…I mean typing here. Daniel Craig is IT! I always loved Bond. I admit to like Connery best before Craig. He was a tad cruel and I like cruel. But when I saw Craig I actually morphed into a crazed teen. I rented it on cable 5 days in a row…watching it over and over til finally hubby broke down and let me buy it. OBSESSED I am. He is the most amazing 3D Bond – cruel, tough, a killing machine – yet human and tormented and able to love. Casino Royale is my all time fave movie. They killed the franchise for me with Quantum solace so please, begging them to get this new move right!. Sigh…..waiting, not patiently.

Donna, how did Quantum of Solace kill it for you? I watched it last night. I think it is a fabulous movie.

I’ve seen all the Bond films. Sean Connery was the original. The series could have remained true to the books but would you like to see Bond cut in half by a saw or laser? The gimmicks took over and the franchise went for blockbuster movies instead of good Cold War spy stories. Daniel Craig has brought the grit back into the series.

I confess. I have never ready any of Flemming’s 007 books. I just know that every new Bond brought a little more humanity. I totally agree that Daniel Craig has also brought back the grit. He is amazing. We should have a Daniel Craig Day, 🙂

Ooh, battle of the Bonds…Love it! Personally, I agree with your assessment of Connery, though I’d also add that I thought he was a hairy gorilla back then. Of course manscaping wasn’t very popular back in those days.
Roger Moore was my first action hero crush….but my favorite bond was Pierce. I wish I could say I hadn’t seen Lazenby’s Bond, but my whole family was pretty Bond crazy, so I had. It was forgettable. Dalton didn’t impress me…and I stopped watching Bond after him for fear of more disappointment. I think you and the Summer Olympics just gave me my reason to try again. Thanks!
